The origins of Orvieto go back the 9th century B.C. time of the first settlements of the Etruscans along the Italians west coast, big prove is the incredible tufaceous caves in the bedrock upon today the city rises. During the middle ages and the dispute between the Pope and the Holy Roman Empire Orvieto always remained faithful to the Pope receiving all the benefits and was able to prosper through the entire medieval. One of the main attraction of Orvieto is the Duomo built in the 13th-14th century in order to preserve the relic of the famous “Miracle of Bolsena”. Obviously as any Umbrian city Orvieto is also know for the finest selection of hams and salamis, extra virgin olive oil, truffle mushrooms, clay and ceramics.
